Each flight of stairs in Ms Bohm’s apartment building has the same
number of stairs and each flight of stairs connects one floor to the
next.
Ms Bohm walks up 65 stairs to get from the Ground floor to her
apartment.
To get from the Ground floor to the top floor she must
walk up 104 stairs.
If the lowest floor of the building is called the Ground floor and the floor above it is called the second floor (or
floor 2), what is the number assigned to the floor where Ms Bohm lives?
The correct solution is 6 floors. For many of you I believe that you used the correct thinking but forgot that the ground floor was technically Floor 1 so you ended up one floor short calling it the fifth floor.
Missing the floor:
ground floor
floor 1
floor 2
floor 3
floor 4
floor 5 - a total of 6 floors
Correct floor palcement: as stated in the problem
Floor 1 ground floor
Floor 2
Floor 3
Floor 4
Floor 5
Floor 6 - 6 floors and Ms. Bohm's apartment

ReplyDeleteThe number assigned to the floor where Ms Bohm lives is the number 5. There are 8 flights of stairs in all, with 13 stairs in each. I figured this out because 8 times 13 equal 104, which are the amount of stairs in all. Now, 65, which is the number of stairs Ms Bohm walks up to get to her apartment, divided by 13, which was the amount of stairs in each flight, and got the number 5.

(Check: 13x5=65 8x13=104)
I think that Ms Bohm lives on the 5th floor of her building, because I divided 104 by 8 and got the answer 13. after that I multiplied 13 by 5 and it equaled 65 which is the exact number of stairs Ms Bohm has to climb up to get to her apartment.

Ms.Bohm lives on floor 2
I think Ms. Bohme would walk up 65 stairs to get to her apartment she will be on the fifth floor because 5X13=65 and there are 8 floors in the whole apartment complex. 8X13=104 and there will be 13 stairs in each flight. S(A)M
ReplyDeleteFA Answer: I think she lives on the 2 floor. If each floor has 65 stairs it would only make sense for it to be the second floor. There would be 39 additional steps. I think in her apartment she would have to climb stairs because she could have a bond were one level of an apartment is someone else’s and the top would be hers. That would make up the 39 steps.
ReplyDelete104/8=13 which is the amount of stairs. 65/13=5 which is the floors. Mrs. Bohm lives on the 5th floor.

I was thinking I should divide 104 by a number that goes into both 65 and 104.
ReplyDeleteIf both 104 and 65 are the numbers of stairs needed to get to a certain level, and they are both divisible by 13, that might be the number of stairs connecting the floors each time.
There are 8 floors in the building and Mr. Bohm’s floor is #5.
EK
ReplyDeleteI think that the answer is that shes on the 5th and there are 8 floors in the building and each floor has 13 stairs. how i got that answer was i knew that the number of stairs that there was on each floor had to go into 104 and 65 evenly and the highest number to go into them was 13. and 65 divided by thirteen is 5 and 104 divided by 13 is 8. and so the answer is 5/8
mg period 3 10/14
ReplyDeleteWell, the ground floor is the 1st floor and she has to walk up 65 sets of stairs. But to get to the penthouse (top floor) she has to walk 104 sets of stairs. So, I divided 104 by 2 which equals 52. Then I divided 52 by 2 and got 26.After, I divided 26 by 2 and got 13. But 13 is a prime number so you can't divide it by anything. So the prime factorization is (13)(2 to the 3rd power)=(13)(8).And then say there are 8 floors and for each set of stairs is 13. 13 divided by 8 is 5. So, Ms. Bohm lives on the 5th floor.

(It’s number 6 because you have to count the ground floor, too.)
104/8=13

Ms.Bohm has to climb up 5 flights of stairs to get to her apartment. if she has to climb up 5 flights of stairs then her apartment has to be on the 6th floor of the building.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I took 65 and 104 and found out that the prime factorization was 13. Then, I did 65 divided by 13 and got 5. So 5 plus 1 is 6. (I added 1 because of the ground level)
FA answer: I think it is 13 because I used GCF to figure out what the GCF is between 65 and 104.
ReplyDelete65/5=13 104/2=52/2=26/2=13
Every floor is 13 steps. (13) (8) = 104
13 is the GCF between these numbers.
JM Answer: I think she lives on the floor 4 because if you count the number of stairs it equals 16. 65 divided by 16 =4.625
ReplyDeleteZH Answer: she lives on the 4th floor.
ReplyDeleteI figured this out by counting the number of stairs in the picture. It was 16 stairs for every flight. I then divided 16 by 65 which equals 4 therefore she lives on the fourth floor.
TL Answer: I believe there are 13 floors. Answer below. So she must live on floor 5.
ReplyDelete104/65 = 130
104/ 2 = 52/2= 26 /2=13
13+13+13=39+39=78+13+13= 104
39+26=65
39steps =3 floors 26steps =2 floors 13steps= 1 floor

ReplyDeleteFirst I 65 from 104 and got 39, and I know that she doesn’t live on the top floor or the ground floor because it just doesn’t add up. Then I decided that the lowest common factor is 13 and 13 goes into 104 8 times. So that means that that there are 8 floors. Then I figured out that 13 goes into 65 5 times. Then I concluded that Ms. Bohm lives on the 5th floor.
C.G.
ReplyDeleteI know that she doesn’t live on the top or bottom floor because she had to walk up 65 stairs. The lowest common factor is thirteen and thirteen goes into 104 eight times. Since there is eight floors I figured out that thirteen goes into 65 five times so ms. bohm lives on the fifth floor.

R.R. Answer: I used a factor tree to find out what number goes into both 65 and 104 and 13 went into both of them, which means there is 13 stairs on each flight. 104 divided by 13= 8, so there are eight floors. 65 divided by 13= 5, so she lives on the fifth floor.
ReplyDeleteSR-104 divided by 13 = 8 and 65 divided by 13 = 5 so Ms.Bohm lives on the fifth floor.

If Ms.Bohm apartment is on the 5th floor because I broke up 104 and I got 13 and 2 to the second power witch means 13 and 8 so I put 8 lines and each one was a floor and each were 13 steps apart the first one is the ground floor the next one is the second floor so if ms.Bohm apartment is 65 steps away from the ground floor then she is on the 5th floor because the top floor is the 8th floor so the answer is 5th floor.

I think that Ms. Bohm lives on floor 2 because you have to divide 104 divided by 65 and you get 1.6 and if you round that up you get 2.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I found the GCF and the answer was 13. So I knew that that meant that each flight of stairs had 13 steps. I then divided 65 by 13 and got 5. So that must mean that Ms. Bohm lives on the 5th floor. So the answer is 5.

ReplyDelete8/104=13, so 13 stairs are in each floor. 13/65=5, so five plus the bottom floor is six and the answer is six.
SM
ReplyDeleteMy answer: Ms. Bohm lives on the 6th floor because what I did was this; I did 104 divided by 2 because I was thinking about level 2 and 104 steps. What I got was 52. With that, I did 65 steps-52 making a difference of 13. Then there might have been 8 levels because of 104 divide by 13. So there might have been 13 steps between each level. So then I did 65 divide by 13 = 5, but that’s the steps in-between each level. So I got 6.
LS
ReplyDeleteMs.Bohm’s apartment is on level six because I subtracted 104-65 and got 39. I then divided 4 by 104 and got 26. To get the number of stairs I took the answer from my division problem and divided that by two and got 13. 13 can go into 104 so I divided 104 by 13 and got 8. On my paper I sketched out Ms.Bohm’s apartment building and did the ground floor, thee second floor, Ms.Bohm’s apartment and the top floor and made all the floors 13 fights of stairs. I counted from the problem because it said she walks 65 stairs to the top.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: I started off doing 104-65 and I got 39. Then I divided 104 from 39 and I got 26. Then I took 26 and saw how many times 26 104 and I got 4 but that didn’t help me at all. So I tried to find the prime factorization of 104 and 65 and I got 13. Then I kept adding 13 until I got 104. Then I looked at how many times it took me tell I got 65 and I got 6. So my answer is, Ms. Bohm lives on level 6.

ReplyDeleteAnswer: What I did first was find the greatest common factor and I got 2 to the 3rd power. Then what I did was find out 2 to the 3rd power witch is 8. So then I divided 104 and 8 and I got 13 then what I did was divide 65 by 13 and I got 5. So Ms Bohm lives on the 5th floor in her apartment complex.
